The Tuke Emigration Project.
I was approached by the Connemara Heritage Society in County Galway, Ireland to design a museum exhibition and book for the Tuke Emigration Heritage Project. Tuke’s assisted emigration scheme was set up in the 1880s to provide funds for those wishing to emigrate to Canada and the USA during the Great Irish Famine but were unable to afford the cost. The project’s goal was to create a resource of lists of names and known details of almost 3,000 people from the Clifden Union who availed of the scheme and aims to create an awareness and understanding of their plight and help their ancestors trace their family’s heritage.
